How Long Should Your Article Be?

If your article is too short (under 400 words) it is unlikely to rank well in any search engine results.

If it is too long then you risk losing the reader’s attention, best to keep to less than 1500 words.

Most people believe that 400-1400 words is the optimum length for an article to rank well and to earn you money from related ads.

People who prefer the shorter end of that scale (400-600) argue that unless the article is well written then you will have lost the attention of the reader by then.

Those writers who prefer longer articles 1000-1400 words argue that these rank higher in Google.

So what do you do, with so many conflicting opinions? You have to rank well in search engines first, or nobody will ever see your articles anyway, so longer is better. To keep the reader’s attention you need to write well and to keep giving new information all the way to the end. Use an image or two to maintain interest. Never pad an article out though, or your reader will just get fed up and click away. In summary 1000 words is better, if you have enough material and if you can writen well.
